African ebony is mostly available in black with occasional grey streaks.  It has fine texture and a straight to irregular grain.

The wood has a severe blunting effect on the tools due to its density. But turns good and can be machined. Takes excellent finish and pre boring is necessary for nails and screws.

• The wood is used mostly for decorative purposes. The applications include furniture, cabinet making, doors, flooring and musical instruments.
